I’d like to say a few words about my Mum, Sylvie.

But first, on behalf of my Dad, Mike and my brother, Mick I’d like to thank you all for the love, kind words and condolences you have given us all at this time of tragedy. I’d like to thank you all for coming here today to say farewell and pay your last respects to the Matriarch of our family.

Sylvie would have been ever so pleased to see you all here today as she so loved to get all the family together. She loved her family and was never happier than when she had her family, especially the kids, around her. I’m sure many of us remember the many family get-togethers she arranged, and especially the family holidays she took great pleasure in organising in the castle up in Scotland. Fantastic holidays that have given us a life time of many happy memories.

Sylvie has given us a life-time of happy memories.

We are here to say goodbye, but we should also give thanks and be pleased to have known such a wonderful woman. A woman who always had time for others. A woman who, to my knowledge, never refused to help anyone. Who was never too busy, who always had time for you. and who cared, who genuinely cared. She was there for Nanna, she was there for Effie and was there for her long time friend Lilly. She may have been there for you at sometime if you needed it, but she was always definitely and unconditionally there for Mike, Mick and me.

From me and Mick. Sylvie, you birthed us you bathed us you fed us you cared for us you looked after us and you loved us. You loved our wives and you loved our children. What more could we want from a Mother. We’ll miss you Mum.

Sylvie wasn’t just a Wife and Mother. She was a Sister and a friend to so many more. Even people who had known Sylvie for a short time described her as a warm and friendly person, with a heart of gold.

She had a sharp, keen intellect. And BOY did she love to debate. One of the cleverest women I have ever come across. She was always going to be my phone a friend if I ever got on Millionaire.

What else can I say about Sylvie? No-one can deny, and I know she wouldn’t mind me mentioning, her size. She was a big woman, but she needed to be. She needed all of that size to accommodate a heart as big as hers. She had the biggest heart of any person I have ever met.

She was big in stature, but she was bigger than that. She was a giant of a woman in my eyes.

I know I will not be alone when I say that my life has been enriched by knowing you and that I will miss you terribly.

God bless you Mum – Go Safely.
